Those who are Meek
(Matthew 5: 1-5)
<Matthew 5: 5>
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
<Introduction> Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount—8 Blessings
1) First blessing (Mat 5: 3) – ” Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
2) Second Blessing (Matt 5: 4) – “Blessed are those who mourn- for they shall inherit the earth
<Main>The Third Blessing (Mt 5: 5) – Those who are meek
1.Meaning of the meek
1) Original (Hebrew) – Lowly, state of being oppressed as a slave
2) A horse that is well-placed in the owner’s hand
3) Biblical Meaning – a man well-groomed in the hands of God
4) A meek one will conquer the world
- Bible – Who is the meek?
1) Moses
- (Nu 12: 3) Moses was more meek than all the people on the face of the earth.
- (Nu 12: 7) My servant Moses. He is faithful in all My House.
2) Peter
- (Matthew 4:20) They immediately left the net and followed Jesus.
- (1 Peter 3: 4) let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit
3) Paul
- (Acts 9: 4-5) The man who fell on his knees before Jesus
- (Ephesians 4: 2) with all lowliness and gentleness.
- (Galatians 5:22) The fruit of the Spirit – gentleness
- A meek person conquers the world.
1) The theory of the world – The stronger is said to win
(Monarchy, Han Feizus, The Art of War)
2) The theory of the Bible – a meek person conquers the world
3) Jesus’ meekness
- (Philippians 2: 8) Jesus – And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
- (Philippians 2:10) at the name of Jesus every knee should bow
4) Paul’s meekness
- (Galatians 2:20) only living in the faith of the Christ
- (Philippians 1:20) so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
5) The disciples’ meekness
- (John 8:31) If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
